On June 22nd, The Hive Bornacoola Youth Club proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary — a remarkable milestone that reflects a quarter-century of dedication, growth, and community spirit. As one of the longest-running volunteer-led youth clubs in County Leitrim, the celebration highlighted the club’s legacy of supporting and empowering young people in the region.
Founded in February 2000 following an initial meeting in the Bornacoola Community Centre, the club was brought to life with support from all the volu nteers , community and Youth Work Ireland North Connaught youth worker Mary Taylor. Since then, The Hive has gone from strength to strength, providing a safe, inclusive, and vibrant safe space for young people to come together, develop skills, and build lasting friendships.
Speaking at the anniversary event, Chairperson Ann Marie Boyle reflected on the club’s journey:
“Over the years, I have had the privilege of watching so many young people grow, achieve their dreams, and become more confident”
The celebration brought together past and present members, volunteers, families, and supporters to honour the club’s achievements and look forward to its continued impact. It served as a reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together to invest in its youth.
As The Hive looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of nurturing the next generation — with energy, passion, and the unwavering support of the Bornacoola community. The club is a testimony to the community and volunteers who continue to give their time, energy, and love to make it all possible.
