Sligo Youth Information Centre invited Ukrainian and Sligo young people to a Community Integration Adventure Camp during the month of August. Through the Adventure Camp, young people from both communities had the opportunity to experience local amenities around Sligo, learn some new outdoor based skills and meet some new people along the way! This 3 day event, organised with Northwest Adventure Tours, kicked off on Monday 21st August with some biking and orienteering around Cleveragh. The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of these teenagers and all teams were off like a shot to complete the orienteering course and win the spot prize.
Day 2 brought us on a lovely walk through Union Wood and up to Union Rock to see the gorgeous views over Sligo. Then back down for a bit of bushcrafting with Barry from Northwest Adventure Tours and building our own fire to toast some marshmallows! On day 3 the sun finally made an appearance and we did a hike up and over Knocknarea to see the stunning views at the top and learn about the folklore of Queen Maeve’s Grave at the top. Then back to the Riverside Hotel for food, some information sharing about local clubs and activities in our area and the presentation of the certificates to all that attended the camp!
